- Start by selecting the appropriate size and shape of the greenstick compound stick for the area that needs border molding.
- Hold the greenstick compound and heat it over a flame (such as a Bunsen burner) until it becomes molten.
- Carefully drip or apply the molten greenstick compound onto the border of the custom dental tray
- Use your fingers or a modeling instrument to shape the molten greenstick compound to the contours of the oral tissues.
- Use a moistened finger or instrument to smooth out any irregularities or air pockets in the border molding compound.
- Perform various types of movements to record intraoral soft tissue landmarks.
- Once the border molding is completed, allow the compound to cool and harden for a few minutes before removing the impression tray from the mouth.
