Choose a trephine drill with an inner diameter slightly larger than the implant’s outer diameter.

Place the trephine drill over the implant; optionally, use a straight multi-unit abutment as a guide.

Begin drilling at low speed with copious irrigation to avoid heat buildup.

Once the drill engages the bone, remove the abutment (if used) and increase drill speed to 1200–1500 rpm.

Continue with gentle, controlled pressure to complete implant retrieval or bone harvesting.
