Interconnected Porous Granules for Faster Bone Integration and Remodeling NovaBone Granules, also known as Dental Morsels, are crystalline and composed of Calcium-Phosphosilicate. NovaBone Dental Morsels - Synthetic Bone Graft Particulate is a bioactive material used for alloplastic bone grafting. NovaBone Dental Morsels is composed of elements naturally occurring in bone (Ca, Na, Si, P, O). The material contained in this package is of a macro-porous particulate form, the particle size range being 500-1000 microns, and is gradually absorbed with time. The material composition used in NovaBone Dental Morsels is one of a number of bioactive glass compositions that have been shown to bond to bone as well as soft tissue. The material undergoes a time-dependent kinetic modification of the surface that occurs when implanted in living tissue. Specifically, the surface reactions result in the formation of a calcium phosphate layer, which is substantially equivalent in composition and structure to the hydroxyapatite in bone mineral. It is this apatite layer that provides the bonding interface with bone and certain types of soft tissue. NovaBone Dental Morsels is partially radiopaque, which enables the clinician to make immediate, as well as long-term, post-operative evaluation. Positive surgical results are related directly to factors of patient cooperation, diligent home care practices, proper case selection and surgical technique. Prophylactic use of Coumadin or aspirin postoperatively is allowed. Are taking immunosuppressant medications, or other medications known to affect the skeleton (e.g. chronic glucocorticoid usage >10mg/day for the previous 3 months). Estrogen replacement therapy is allowed. Have had, or are undergoing irradiation treatment of the graft region. Have a systemic metabolic disorder known to adversely affect mucosla healing or bone healing and mineralization (e.g. poorly controlled insulin-dependent diabetes, renal osteodystrophy, Paget’s disease), other than primary osteoporosis. Have any existing condition or disease that will interfere with good mucosal and bone healing.
