Preparation:
- Ensure the scaler tip is securely attached to the ultrasonic scaler and compatible with UDS or EMS systems
Patient Positioning:
- Position the patient comfortably, ensuring optimal visibility and access to the teeth
Setting the Scaler:
- Turn on the ultrasonic scaler and adjust the power settings based on the level of calculus present. Start with a lower setting to gauge comfort
Application Technique:
- Use the scaler tip to apply gentle pressure against the tooth surfaces, targeting supragingival, subgingival, and interdental areas
Movement:
- Glide the tip along the surfaces, including interproximal and sulcus areas, using a sweeping motion to effectively remove calculus and plaque
Cleaning:
- Regularly rinse the treated areas to remove debris and maintain visibility
Post-Use:
- After scaling, clean and sterilize the scaler tip according to standard protocols to ensure hygiene and longevity of the instrument
